What Happened to All the Big Events?

For those of you who have followed us for some time (https://www.facebook.com/Homegrownandhappiness/ know that there usually have been several events throughout the summer season. The Take a Peak Chicken Coop Tour (in years past) has fallen in May and CS Backyard Farm Fest happens, usually in August. These events have not happened in a few years for several reasons that I wanted to address.
First, the Take a Peak Chicken Coop Tour.(https://www.facebook.com/TakeAPeakCoopTour). This has been an event in Colorado Springs for very long time. It is basically a Parade of Homes for Chicken Coops. John Conner was the founder and ran it for years until his health started waning. My wife Kellie has been running every since. After couple successful years, we had some things that shut it down. In 2020 & 2021 we had Covid which stopped everything from happening, In 2022, Bird Flu came around and we were required by the state not to hold our event. We started things back up in 2023 & 2024 and put out our usual request for people with coops to be available for location for the tour (we need between 10-15 coops to make it work) For both of those years we only had 1 or 2 people sign up to show off their setups. For that reason, we could not plan this event.

Going forward into 2025, we are going to make an even bigger push to hopefully get a bunch of coops for this next years tour. To help with this, follow the coop tour on Facebook and stay tuned here and on Homegrown and Happiness. If you see the announcement pop up, share it and consider being a location. It truly is so much fun to show off your setup with folks considering getting chickens themselves.
Second, Colorado Spring - Backyard Farm Fest. (https://www.facebook.com/colorado.springs.backyard.farm.fest)
This even was born out of all the questions we got during the Take a Peak Chicken Coop Tour when we were a host location. Everyone always wanted to know about everything else we do and grow. But in May, growing has just begun. So my wife and I formulated a plan to start this new event to give backyard homesteaders the ability to show off all they do when growing is at its peak. We were only able to get one event done before all of the above happenings came long. So again, our goal for 2025 is to ramp this back up, "if" we can get the Coop Tour running soldi again as some of the Coop tour sites become Backyard Farm Fest site. Follow us on the above Facebook page and watch for next years announcement. Think about being a site for either of these events.

Third, we often hold open farm days here at Homegrown and Happiness. These we have not done for a couple years due to other factors. One, the yard and house are under some remodel work that has had to be put off by a secondary fact. My wife Kellie's health. Some of you know about this but others don't. We will be putting out a full other post about that soon. She is doing much better now, but delays happened on projects. We truly miss having neighbors stop in to see what is growing.
